The publication Oceanographic has a report on Super Trawlers fishing in and around Marine Protected Areas in the last few weeks:
However this practice has been going on for some time as obviously the richest catches are to be found in or near these areas.
In 2016 we highlighted this practice was ongoing in MPAs around the Faroes and Shetland. We have also in the past noted it in the areas to the West of Scotland. It involves some of the largest super trawlers. It seems four years on enforcement action is still not deterring this activity.
