Twenty years ago this year the Celtic League held a demonstration outside the French Embassy in Dublin. It was a protest about the detention of six Bretons, some of whom had been held – without charge – for four years. The delegation included representatives from all six Celtic Countries.
A few days later the French Embassy granted a meeting to two League delegates who emphasised the concerns about the ongoing detentions.
The League also highlighted that mail and reading materials sent to the prisoners had been refused and returned.
The League informed Embasy officials that the treatment of the Bretons was at odds with both international and European rights law
