A small group gathered to commemorate the execution of Manx patriot Illiam Dhone at Hango Hill today. Mark Kermode of Mec Vannin gave a brief intro and another speaker was well known Manxman Stewart Bennet who is a member of both Yn Çheshaght Ghailckagh and the Celtic Congress. Mr Bennett laid the wreath at the execution site.
To conclude matters Cristl Jerry played the lament ‘Baase Illiam Dhône’, on the whistle. Mannin Branch Celtic League Secretary Allen Moore was also in attendance.
The commemoration was held at the usual time of 2:00pm but there were no formal speeches this year and a social gathering which had previously always been held was cancelled due to the ongoing Covid situation.
