More Nukes Means More Waste

More Nuclear power stations mean more nuclear waste and the United Kingdom has still not determined a long-term strategy for dealing with the waster mountain that current nuclear power stations have created. This was the message delivered to delegates at the AGM of the Celtic League held in Mannin this weekend.

A resolution addressing the issue was moved by Manx delegates and adopted by the meeting (text below):

“This AGM:

Bearing in mind the decision of the UK government to proceed with a new generation of nuclear power plants, many sited around the Irish Sea, reiterates its opposition to these plans.

Calls on the UK government to come forward with a coherent strategy for dealing with the pollution and waste legacy from existing nuclear plants. ”
