Mann: What Level of Full Employment?

In the wake of further positive news on the Manx jobs market the Celtic League has once again pressed the DED to see what level of current employment is full time.

A two part query in September was answered in part by another government Department DHSC who outlined the numbers of employed persons receiving state benefit top ups to their wages (see link below)’

However the DED has still not set out what percentage of Island employed people are in FULL TIME employment.

Text to Minister Laurence Skelly below:

“The Minister for Economic Development
Mr Laurence Skelly MHK
Department of Economic Development
St Georges Court

Isle of Man

9th October 2015

Dear Minister,

I note that once again there is positive news in relation to unemployment levels on the Island and whilst this is of course welcome an important indicator of the health of the jobs market is also the level of FULL TIME employment and whether this is WELL REMUNERATED.

I addressed two queries to your Department on 27th September on these points and suggested that the latter query (concerning wages topped-up with social benefits) may be more appropriate to DHSC. I am extremely grateful to DHSC for subsequently providing very detailed information on that area of my query.

However I note that my question to DED about the levels of full time employment as opposed to part time employment has not had a response.

If you do not collate this information please let me know.

Yours sincerely,

J B Moffatt (Mr)

Director of Information
Celtic League”
