Irish UN troops prepare for 40th Xmas in Lebanon

Irish troops are preparing to spend their 40th Xmas in Lebanon as part of the UNIFIL force which was deployed in 1978. The total number of UNIFIL troops is over 10,000 and the Irish contribute a battalion strength unit which operates with Finnish and Fijian troops in the SE sector on the border with Israel.

Forty seven Irish troops have died during the UN mission out of a total of 312 overall loss to the UN Force
