NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

The Scottish Power warranties issue currently earning the Isle of Man FSA a degree of ire from Brit politicians down in Westminster is a classic example of how slow moving any attempt by consumers who feel cheated to get redress can be.

The events in question date back now well over a decade and indeed the issue did have an earlier public airing on the Island with a case in the High Court about three years ago (see link):

Curiously although we splash out quite a bit of cash on Deemsters salaries the Deemster at the time came up with a curious ruling in that he didn’t rule at all. As the article says:

{But Deemster David Doyle said he did not intend to give ‘any guidance, ruling or order’ on the claim as the liquidators were ‘far better placed than this court to come to a judgment on the validity of the claim’.

The rational for this esoteric decision is unclear. Perhaps it was simply a legalistic version of ‘pass the parcel’. In any case the parcel now seems to have landed in Portcullis House at the UK parliament.}
