MANN: QUERY ABOUT IRANIAN SHIPPING LINKS

The Celtic League has written to Isle of Man Chief Minister, Tony Brown, asking about suggestions that vessels owned by the Islamic Republic of Iran may have been registered on the Island (see below):

Dear Chief Minister,

I noted comments in the media some weeks ago about the possible registering of vessels owned by the Islamic Republic of Iran through companies in the Isle of Man.

Can you advise if your government is aware if Iranian vessels are owned or registered via companies on the Isle of Man?

If Iranian owned vessels are registered or serviced via companies on the Isle of Man do you believe that this is conducive to the good image of the Island Internationally?

You will of course be aware of the appalling human rights record of the Iranian government towards its own people and the statement by the leader of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, that he would like to see a neighbouring Middle Eastern State (Israel) and its people “wiped off the map”.

Yours sincerely
