NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

The Manx Police have released their annual report (compiled by the Chief Constables Office) not surprisingly there was much media focus on the unresolved spate of burglaries that hit the Island in two waves earlier this year. No prosecutions or arrests have been made.

However the burglary issue was overshadowed somewhat by the worrying revelation that the Police had to increasingly devote scarce resources to social care issues including mental health problems.

This seems to indicate a breakdown in Social Service and Health Care provision of an alarming nature and it indicates Manx government staffing cuts may not have been properly thought through in a number of key sectors.

It also begs the question: Are police officers trained to the requisite standard of mental health care professionals?
