NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

Twenty members of the Aï‘ta Collective took part in a protest in Lorient last week

They were demonstrating against changes made to the interactive displays and signage at the Cite de la Voile (Sailing City) museum in the City.

Originally multi-lingual presentations including French – Breton and English were available but since the facility has been revamped the Breton language has been discarded and the new tri-lingual signage is in French, English and German

Lorient is also the town where the Inter-Celtic Festival is organised every summer. Indeed as we reported recently the largest delegation of Manx and Cornish participants will set of at the end of this month for the festival.

However some language activists believe Lorient has done the bare minimum to support the Breton language of late and the action taken by Aï ‘Ta was a response to this.
