Ireland’s Minister with Responsibility for Defence Mr. Paul Kehoe T.D, in the presence of An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, T.D., hosted the naming and commissioning ceremonies of the new Irish Naval Service vessel L.É. George Bernard Shaw recently at Waterford.
The L.É. George Bernard Shaw is the final vessel in a series of four offshore patrol vessels designed to police the wider Atlantic offshore economic zone. The vessels of this type have also been engaged in International humanitarian efforts in the Mediterranean.
The Irish Naval Services next procurement is aimed at providing a Multi Role Vessel to support the International Peacekeeping and humanitarian work that the countries Defence forces undertakes under UN mandate.
