The decision of the UK government to stop releasing information on safety breaches and incidents involving the nuclear submarine fleet has been condemned by the Scottish Nationalist Party.
Until 2017 reports were released but are now withheld on grounds of national security. In addition to the SNP and anti-nuclear groups the move has also been criticised by a former submarine who served as second in command on HMS Repulse a ballistic missile submarine and later captained HMS Sceptre a nuclear hunter killer submarine.
