The French Navy have revised their plans to carry out live firing of missiles in an area of the Irish EEZ. The planned exercise which aped a similar move by Russian earlier this year was opposed by Fishermen’s Organisations in the South West of Ireland and the Irish government. As happened with Russia the exercise will now avoid the Irish EEZ.
The French move has however refocused calls for a ban on military exercises in National EEZs by both fishermen and environmental groups.
