Schools Recruitment ForcesWatch Update

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

An update from ForcesWatch Education Officer, Owen Everett, about their campaign to get the Welsh Assembly to act on recruitment in School. Owen says:

“I’m pleased to be able to let you know that the Welsh Government has agreed in principle to more research into armed forces visits to schools in Wales, and accepts that a balanced image of the military must be ensured, as should the expansion of the range of employers going into schools. See our press release which links to the Welsh Government’s statement here: https://forceswatch.net/news/forceswatch-welcomes-welsh-government-stance-over-military-visits-schools”

He adds,

“recognising that at least some of the main concerns around armed forces visits to schools in Wales are significant enough to warrant some action is in itself big progress. Hopefully the debate on the issue in the Welsh Assembly next Wednesday will be rigorous”.

That debate is scheduled for the 30th of September.

Meanwhile the Celtic League General Secretary is writing to leaders in all the Celtic countries urging them to follow the Welsh Assembly’s lead.
