Plaid Leader Attacks Bigotry and Racism

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

An attempt by a far right group to stage a rally on Anglesey last weekend was thwarted when a much larger peace rally was staged as a counter.

The so called ‘Infidels of North Wales’ had scheduled the rally in Llangefni on Saturday in the wake of the ISIS attacks in Paris but a counter demonstration attended by Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood dominated the day.

Leanne Wood said:

“Racism, exclusion and attempts to divide will not be tolerated. The messages of hate that are pushed by far-right groups are not welcome.

“Those responsible for the deaths and destruction in Paris want us to be afraid. They want us to be suspicious and to turn against our Muslim neighbours, they want racial conflict.

“We must not give them what they want. If we do, they have won.”

Organisers of the counter demonstration hailed its success saying it:

“helped stop the spread of hate onto the streets of Anglesey”

A video with this article shows Leanne Wood speaking out against bigotry and intolerance.
