Manx Government: Positive Message on Social Housing

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

There has been an extremely positive message from the Manx Governments Department of Infrastructure responding to our query about Social housing.

We had taken the opportunity to write to the Department on the anniversary of ‘World Homelessness Day’ to enquire what the current position was in relation to those on Social housing waiting lists in the Isle of Man (link):

In a detailed breakdown supplied by the Department it is indicated that 1160 people (2015-16) are currently on waiting lists.

Whilst this is a large number a comparator with data supplied for previous years shows a progressive improvement. For example in 2011-12 there were 1803 on the list so the decrease is very significant indeed.

More importantly the figures for last year and this show the largest decline in numbers 15.1%

The data also reveals 38 houses currently under construction with 240 planned over the next five years.

As indicated it is very positive and should the trend continue numbers waiting may drop into triple figures over the next few years.
