Cornwall is a Country not a `County’! That is the message from the Celtic League AGM held this weekend on the Isle of Man to the BBC.
Cornish delegates successfully moved a resolution calling on the BBC is drop the use of the descriptive term `County’ when referring to Cornwall a move that some other broadcasters have already taken.
The text of the resolution which was unanimously adopted says:
“The AGM of the Celtic League calls on the BBC to better represent Cornwall’s distinctive Celtic nature and delete from their broadcasts (when referring to Cornwall) the descriptive term County”.
Another Cornish resolution which was also solidly supported called “for all public and utility services to be administered and controlled from within Cornwall”. Delegates were told such a move would provide greater security and accountability.
