NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE
Well the Chamber of Commerce initiative or ‘Charm Offensive’ we reported on just an hour ago seems to have got of to a ‘flying start’.
Already on the Chamber Facebook pages Cat Turner recently elected Councillor (Lib Vannin) and environmentalist has said the Chamber doesn’t engage with NGOs on sustainability issues:
Quote:
“Cat Turner – And it declines invitations to engage with govt/NGO sustainability initiatives because its members are ‘too busy’”.
Meanwhile another contributor Simon Costain makes an equally damning if more serious assertion which leans towards the comment we made about the up close and cosy relationship between Chamber and Chief Minister.
Quote:
“Simon Costain – It disbands your industry committee if it (& the Chief Minister of the day) doesn’t like what you’re saying – that’s what it does”.
Both assertions I can recognise as from my experience over many years of involvement with it. Non engagement and control freakery were facets of the beast. It appears nothing has changed.
Mind you things may change later this year when there is a change of Chief Minister and someone takes over who may prefer to steer his own course and not have ‘the dead hand’ of the IOMCOC on the wheel!
Expect the ‘charm offensive’ to be stepped up no one seems charmed so far!
