NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

KPMG who were making the headlines in Mann yesterday with their ‘tax briefing’ (see link):

are also still making the headlines in Canada where CBC the National broadcaster is remorselessly continuing its expose of tax matters of a different type linked to KPMG.

The latest story alludes to a close relationship between government, the CRA and several major accountancy firms including KPMG.

However Canadians for Tax Justice executive director Dennis Howlett is not impressed saying:

“This is a serious problem, certainly a perception of conflict of interest. The government shouldn’t be cozying up to companies that they’ve taken to court over very serious allegations,”

Because, of course, KPMG is currently being pursued in the Federal Court in Canada by the CRA (see link):

Strangely the latest CBC allegation comes just days after the Celtic League fired a broadside at the Canadian High Commissioner condemning the CRA for trying to do a back room deal with KPMG to resolve tax matters involving the Isle of Man (see link):

This story seems set to run!
